  • Option 5 · Your way

    Build My Own

“Choose exactly the services you need — and nothing you don’t.”

Mix editorial, production, platform setup, author brand, marketing and events. Every service is explained, and JJL prepares a custom proposal for your project.

    Build My Own

Every author and book is different. Pick a package and customize it, or build your own plan from scratch. JJL then prepares a custom proposal — pricing is provided in a written proposal. Not sure which path fits? Start with an Assessment.

Packages that include physical marketing materials set aside a starter amount toward them; quantities are limited, and printing beyond it, freight and specialty items are separate. Unless a written proposal says otherwise, editing, printing, proofs, platform or vendor fees, inventory, postage, travel, lodging, venue charges, paid advertising and other third-party costs are separate from package scope.

Two different relationships

Author Services and JJL Imprint Publishing

JJL works with authors in two distinct ways. It helps to know which is which.

  • Our primary offering

    Author Services

You publish with professional help. JJL evaluates your project, coordinates production, manages design, coordinates editors where needed, prepares your publishing assets, helps configure publishing and distribution platforms, builds your author platform, and coordinates your launch.

Unless a separate written agreement expressly says otherwise, you keep:

    • copyright and publishing rights
    • ownership of your manuscript
    • your own author-controlled publishing accounts — Amazon KDP, IngramSpark and Bookvault
    • your own imprint and ISBN arrangements

Buying Author Services does not make your book a JJL imprint title.

  • Selective

    JJL Imprint Publishing

JJL may selectively publish certain works under a JJL Publishing House imprint. This is separate from Author Services.

A book becomes a JJL imprint title only when JJL selects it for that relationship and the parties sign a separate Publishing Agreement. That agreement controls the rights licensed, formats, territory, language, term, royalties, reporting, responsibilities and rights reversion.

Submitting a manuscript does not create this relationship, and neither does purchasing Author Services.

Where to start

Assessment and Editorial Guidance

  • Manuscript-to-Market Assessment

Also offered as a Publishing Strategy + Manuscript Assessment. JJL may evaluate your manuscript’s readiness, editorial needs, production requirements, publishing and distribution plan, author platform and launch strategy — and recommend the service path that fits.

Assessments are scoped on request. Submitting a manuscript does not mean it receives a detailed assessment.

    Start with an Assessment
  • Editorial Services

JJL evaluates editorial needs and can coordinate qualified editorial professionals as part of the publishing process. Editorial scope is quoted separately after manuscript review.

Editorial work can include manuscript evaluation, developmental editing, line editing, copyediting, proofreading, beta reading and specialist review where appropriate. Editing is not bundled into every package.

Common questions

Answers for Aspiring Authors

Can’t find what you need? We’re glad to help.

Contact Us
How long does the publishing process take?

Timelines vary by project, scope and the availability of outside providers. Your proposal sets out the plan, and we keep you informed at each stage.

Do I keep my rights, and what does it cost?

With Author Services you keep your copyright, publishing rights and manuscript, and your Amazon KDP, IngramSpark and Bookvault accounts stay author-controlled, unless a separate written agreement expressly says otherwise. JJL does not publish package prices; costs are set out in a written proposal after we understand your project.

If I buy Author Services, is my book published by JJL?

No. Author Services help you professionally prepare and publish your own book. A JJL imprint title exists only when JJL selects a work and the parties sign a separate Publishing Agreement; neither submitting a manuscript nor buying Author Services creates that relationship.

Is editing included?

Not automatically. JJL evaluates editorial needs and can coordinate qualified editorial professionals; editorial scope is quoted separately after manuscript review.

Do you guarantee bookstore placement, events or sales?

No. JJL does the outreach and coordination work, but appearances, placement, media coverage, reviews and sales are never guaranteed.

What should I send?

A completed manuscript in PDF or DOCX format (up to 10 MB), plus a short synopsis, your genre, and approximate word count. See the submission guidelines above, then use the submission form.
